“So I’m back, to the velvet underground. Back to the floor, that I love. To a room with some lace and paper flowers. Back to the gypsy that I was.”
Before I begin a lengthy gush over everything that is Stevie Nicks, let’s get one thing straight. It’s utterly impossible to wear a gyspy skirt and heart-shaped sunnies without feeling as though you’re missing a ban-the-bomb placard, a joint and possibly a stable income. Doesn’t sound half bad right? Although with a basic salary and a side table to my name I can’t say I feel too far off. And what’s more, I’m okay with that.
Stevie Nicks wrote “Gypsy” to tell the story of her ritual to remain humble. Whenever she got in over her head she’d move her mattress to the floor and sleep like she did before she hit the big time. I can’t say I have, as yet, reached such down-to-earthing status but I can appreciate the sentiment to remain grounded no matter how full or fleeting one’s twirl in a gypsy skirt is.
S/O to Stevie Nicks for the life lessons, the sartorial-style-spirations and for adding the chicest riff to a Beyoncé track. You go gurl.
